Hillary’s New Strategy: Hypnosis

I’ve been hearing a lot about Barack Obama’s speech at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Iowa last Saturday, but today I got to see a few clips of Hillary Clinton’s speech that preceded Obama’s. Apparently, her strategy is to lull her audience into a somnabulistic donation trance.

No wonder everyone was wowed by Obama’s speech afterward… it must have been like watching a TV movie only to be scared half to death by some blaring local car commercial.

Judge for yourself. Here’s part 2 of her speech (skipping over 5 minutes of introduction). Trust me, you won’t need to watch parts 1 or 3; unless, that is, Abe Lincoln and a beaver miss you. Don’t forget to set your alarm first!

(BTW, is Andrew Jackson really the president the Dems should be associating themselves with, what with Bury My Heart… still playing on HBO?)

The Cosmic Ballet… Goes On

This weekend I donated my microwave to Goodwill. My apartment includes an over-the-range microwave, and from what I’m told microwaves sell on the work for-sale list about as well as Bed Bath & Beyond Coupons.  As much as I hate to get rid of anything (especially if it actually still works), I decided it was taking up too much space lying dormant on my countertop, and I couldn’t justify ever plugging it in and pretending that I’d use it.

Immediately after dropping it off at Goodwill, I remembered that the first microwave I ever bought was from a Goodwill in Corvallis, Oregon. I was a cheap college student on co-op, with only a bike for transportation, and Goodwill was literally around the corner from my apartment (right next to a conveniently placed Cub Foods, where you had to bag your own groceries if you can believe that).

My regret over giving up a perfectly good microwave was softened by the thought that in some way I was returning the favor I got to take advantage of so many years ago.

Now, if I could just find something to do with all of these Bed Bath & Beyond coupons…
