Hillary Clinton has hit a new low in the battle over delegates for the Democratic nomination. Not content to wrangle over superdelegates, now she’s trying to float the message that pledged delegates– those selected by state primaries and caucuses– are not legally bound to vote for the candidate that voters chose:
For the second time in three days, Hillary Clinton has told reporters that the “pledged” delegates awarded based on vote totals in their state are not bound to abide by election results — an idea that has been floated by her or a campaign surrogate several times this month.

This is just more evidence that the Clinton campaign is willing to destroy the Democratic party in order to secure a nomination. I think the party would be hurt enough if superdelegates were to overturn the will of the voters, but can you imagine if enough pledged delegates were convinced to switch their vote and go against the people who sent them to the convention? I can imagine what it would be like: 100 more years in Iraq.
Absolutely disgusting.

Aside from the chuckle I got about the op-ed Armah wrote (which I haven’t read, btw), I found Armah’s discussion on Talk of the Nation to be quite refreshing and on the mark. The interview’s only ~8 minutes, so I encourage you to give it a listen:

PBS Frontline is running a two-part series entitled ‘Bush’s War’, part I was last week (currently replaying on TV as I type) and part II commences Tuesday at 9pm.
In case you can’t make it to your TV, Frontline is making the complete series available for viewing online:

“The central battleground in the battle against al Qaeda is in Iraq today,” McCain said, noting a message allegedly released by Osama bin Laden last week calling Iraq ‘a perfect base.’

I’m envisioning a Looney Tunes cartoon where McCain, carrying his blunderbus, is chasing Osama bin Laden in hot pursuit, but loses sight of him as he comes to a fork in the road… one way leads to Waziristan and the other way leads to Iraq. Suddenly, a local yokel appears before McCain (it’s clearly Osama in disguise) and McCain asks him the infamous “which way did he go? which way did he go?”. The disguised Osama thinks for a second: “uuuuuuh… he went that-a way!” and points toward Iraq.
100 years, and 80,000 US casualties later and the rest, as they say, is history.

The overall U.S. death toll in Iraq rose to 4,000 after four soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad, a grim milestone that is likely to fuel calls for the withdrawal of American forces as the war enters its sixth year.
